The United States is the defending World Cup champion and is seeking its sixth title overall.
A champion on both the global and National Basketball Association stage, the five-time all-star will be a valuable presence on a relatively young Team USA squad.
Also on the national roster: Boston's Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum, Toronto's Kyle Lowry, Milwaukee's Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez, Sacramento's Harrison Barnes, Detroit's Andre Drummond, the Los Angeles Lakers' Kyle Kuzma, Utah's Donovan Mitchell, Houston's P.J. Tucker and Indiana's Myles Turner. Miller said players are sometimes called up from the Select Team based on needs or impressive play. "The six players we added today are all outstanding players in their own right, and along with the other players who will attend the World Cup Team training camp, will offer Coach Popovich and his staff some remarkable athleticism and versatility". The players are prioritizing club over country.
Love, 30, has represented the USA on two other occasions, winning gold at both the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2012 London Olympics.
Carmelo has a long and successful history with Team USA. The No. 5 selection in the 2018 NBA Draft, Young averaged 19.1 points and 8.1 assists per game, becoming just the third rookie in NBA history to play in 70% of their team's games and compile those minimum averages. "These 13 players help extend the legacy of elite players who have been part of USA Basketball Select teams".
The Team USA training camp starts August 5 in Las Vegas.
