Bushwick Bill went on to explain that he had been staying quiet about his diagnosis - not even telling fellow Geto Boys founders Scarface and Willie D - but chose to open up about it because "keeping it to myself is not really helping anybody". She says she spoke to hospital staff to confirm, and says some of Bill's family members are by his hospital bedside right now. Later today, Bill's organs began to shut down and he passed away. Bill, whose legal name is Richard Shaw, was surrounded by family when he died.
Bushwick Bill - the rapper and co-founder of the legendary Houston, Texas, group Geto Boys - died on Sunday, two months after going public with his pancreatic cancer diagnosis. The Jamaica-born performer was widely reported to have passed Sunday after a bandmate wrote a post on Instagram suggesting he had died.
He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in February. I was told it is mass with no goal. "I have been getting tested for a mass but it was benign", Bill told TMZ.
He said he was working on new music because, "I notice when most celebrities pass, they really don't have nothing set up for their children and everything's in disarray so I figure, old music will sell but if I have new music for them ... at least they will have residual income from those things".
The Geto Boys rose to fame in the early '90s. The love for Bill and The Geto Boys remains strong, especially by those actively involved in the hip-hop community.
