Woods missed the cut at the US PGA Championship having played no tournaments between his victory at the Masters in April and his disappointing performance in the second major of the year at Bethpage Black.
The 43 -year-old will be making his 17th appearance the invitational tournament hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus at Muirfield Village Golf Club. He had skipped the Wells Fargo Championship two weeks earlier and did not play a Wednesday practice round at the course the day before the start of the tournament.
Tiger Woods will play in the Memorial Tournament as preparation for June's U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. "Looking forward to getting out there again", Woods confirmed on social media. "I've got to start feeling a little bit better first before that happens".
After missing the cut at the US PGA Championship, Tiger Woods is taking a different approach in the lead up to the U.S. Open.
"The PGA was a quick turnaround (from the Masters), and unfortunately I just didn't play well", he said last week. We'll do that first and then start cranking it back up again. "There's going to be days and weeks where it's just not going to work, and today was one of those days".
He most recently won the event in 2012, when he chipped in for birdie on the event's 70th hole to claim his 73rd PGA Tour victory.
Playing next week will give Woods the flawless opportunity to adjust his game before the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach next month - something he didn't have a chance to do before the PGA Championship. He has also won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am once, also in 2000.
