I will start a search for our new General Manager immediately.
Gase, the former Bears offensive coordinator, was sacked as head coach of the Dolphins on December 31 after two seasons in Miami.
While the Jets finished with a 10-6 record after Maccagnan's first season after taking the GM job, the team has gone just 14-34 over the past three seasons since.
A rift reportedly grew between Maccagnan and Gase weeks after the head coach was hired in January.
Gase was irritated by the suggestion there were problems between the two when asked about the reports, saying last Friday: "I don't know who decides to put that stuff out there".
A few weeks back in one of my columns on the 2019 draft, I reported that all was not well in New York Jets land for General Manager Mike Maccagnan, and that many expected changes in the Jets' front office after the draft. We have discussion on everything. Head Coach Todd Bowles paid the price with his job in the off-season, but Maccagnan was seemingly handed a reprieve and was given the green light to mount a particularly aggressive offseason. The Jets also added wide receiver Jamison Crowder from the Washington Redskins and trade for offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele from the Oakland Raiders.
Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas is believed to be a primary candidate to replace Maccagnan.
