Samsung brings Apple TV app to compatible Smart TVs

The company is launching a redesigned version of the Apple TV app as it also prepares to launch its new TV+ streaming service later this year.

Apple has started rolling out its TV app in over 100 countries that includes India, which would run across devices, including iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs and all of the Samsung smart TVs that are part of its 2019 line-up. Users just need to select the app icon to access all of their iTunes movies and TV show purchases. "In the US, Apple TV channels include popular services such as HBO, Starz, SHOWTIME, Smithsonian Channel, EPIX, Tastemade, and new services like MTV Hits, with more to be added over time around the world". The new Apple TV app may be able to help.

The app lets you subscribe to Apple TV channels, paying only for those you want, and watch directly in the app, on demand.

I suspected this might be true following Apple's original announcement of the new TV app, since these existing integrations rely on frameworks inherent to both iOS and tvOS themselves. This support is also coming to select LG, Sony, and VIZIO smart TVs later this year.

Available now, you can download iOS 12.3 by opening the Settings app, tapping General, tapping Software Update and following on-screen prompts. Upwards of 500 titles featuring 4K resolution, many with HDR10 or Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) are available.

Also starting from today, with AirPlay 2-enabled Samsung Smart TVs, customers can effortlessly play videos and other content from their iPhone, iPad or Mac directly to their Samsung Smart TV.

Most Apple TV Channels come with a free trial.

Netflix and Amazon now dominate with millions of customers tuning in every day to binge on movies and original content.

As always, Apple's promising a privacy-first experience, and notes that all of the work for its "intelligent suggestions" that recommend shows based on your experience take place " on-device so your personal information stays private", and doesn't get mixed into your TV, as Smart TVs have a bad reputation for collecting user data.

Did you know we have a YouTube Channel? More services will be added at a later date.
