Milwaukee County Transit System officials say just before 8 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, bus driver Irena Ivic spotted the toddler wandering alone on a freeway overpass near 4th and Mitchell in frigid tempatures.
The Milwaukee County Transit System says the girl was less than a year old and wearing only a diaper and a onesie when bus driver Irena Ivic spotted him on December 22. Police said the boy's mother left him outside, according to MCTS. Abele called her actions "humanity at its best". Authorities eventually reunited the boy with his father. He's wearing a red onesie and a diaper.
The temperature was below freezing and Ivic knew she had to stop her bus and save the baby boy, who was less than 1 year old, MCTS said.
She suddenly stopped the bus and dodged traffic to rescue the baby. Surveillance video from the bus shows Ivic's view of the boy as he ran over a freeway overpass.
"Oh my God, I was so upset", she told KTLA sister station WITI in Milwaukee.
