Even though plot details surrounding the movie are being kept under wraps, Mysterio has appeared in several Spider-Man cartoons and video games.
It's finally official. Jake Gyllenhaal will be donning the giant glass dome to play the big bad in the next Spider-Man solo movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home. It's now unclear which incarnation of Mysterio Gyllenhaal will be portraying.
The role will be the actor's first major part in a superhero blockbuster film. Rumours were rife that he would don the role of a villain in the movie and now, Jake has confirmed that he will be bringing the comic book character of Mysterio to life in the movie.
Spider-Man creators, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, introduced Mysterio in the comics in 1964.
Mysterio is a special effects expert who commits crimes and fights Spider-Man using elaborate illusions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Tom Holland, who has been playing the Spider-Man in the new series, couldn't help but join in. And, with the current rumour-mill suggesting we'll get a Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer at the weekend, we'll bet good money we'll get to see the character in action (why else do the Jake reveal this week?) when it lands.
Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is due to be released on 5 July, 2019.
