A Formula 3 race at the Macau Grand Prix was brought to a halt after German driver Sophia Floersch went flying through the air following a high-speed crash.
Videos of the accident posted online show race cars negotiating a right turn when Sophia's auto suddenly hurtles in the air above the tracks, strikes another vehicle driven by Sho Tsuboi, flies over the race barriers and crashes into the fencing behind them.
"Just wanted to let everybody know that I am fine but will be going into surgery tomorrow morning", she said.
Four other people were taken to hospital, including one other driver, two photographers and a track marshal.
The German, who races for the Van Amersfoort team, took to Twitter following the horror crash in China earlier today. Thanks to everybody for the Supporting messages.
All three were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Race victor Peter Hickman leads his Aspire-Ho by Bathams Racing team-mate Michael Rutter in the 52nd Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix.
One injured marshal is reported to have suffered a fractured jaw, while a trackside photographer sustained a laceration to his liver and another a concussion.
There are reports Florsch fractured her spinal cord in the incident.
"I hope everybody's OK after this crash, I wish them the best recovery", said European champion Mick Schumacher, the son of stricken F1 legend Michael, according to the Post.
Following a lengthy red flag delay to fix broken catch fencing, Ticktum got away well at the restart and briefly came under pressure from the pursuing Joel Eriksson on Lap 12, after the Swede had got past Sacha Fenestraz at the restart on Lap 7.
The race was immediately red-flagged and did not restart until an hour after the incident.
