"The Ford GT Carbon Series will stand out on the road with its striking, carbon-fibre-rich design and on the track with its athleticism".
Aimed at making the auto even more track worthy, Ford made a decision to fit the GT with a series of carbon fiber elements to make it shed some fat. The limited-edition version of the vehicle drops 39 pounds off the GT's curb weight. Those wheels help save weight, as do titanium lug nuts, a titanium exhaust system, and a thinner, vented polycarbonate engine cover that is shared with the Competition Series. The A-pillars and lower side skirts are also exposed carbon fiber, and the vehicle also comes standard with the optional carbon fiber wheels. Thanks to its race-bred pedigree, the GT is already somewhat compromised when it comes to comfort and ergonomics but, being a lightweight special, the Carbon Series must, of course, take things further still. Additionally, Ford ditched conveniences like cupholders and a driver's side seat storage bin. An optional accent package (silver, red, orange or blue) draws a thin stripe down the middle of that stripe, with matching accent-colored exterior mirrors.
On the inside, you'll find a unique pattern on the steering wheel and seats with contrast silver stitching, clear anodized paddle shifters, and Carbon Edition instrument panel badges. The interior features matte carbon fibre sills, air register pods and centre console.
"This is just another example of how we listen to our customers at Ford", says Lance Mosley, marketing manager, Ford Performance. We suspect the real appeal of this Carbon Edition is the way it looks, with more exposed carbon than any previous GT.
The Ford GT Carbon Series is said to be nearly 18kg (40lb) lighter than the standard vehicle.
The Ford GT Carbon Series can be ordered now for approved customer applicants, while the final owner application process will open on November 8th and last for 30 days.
