Plane quarantined at Kennedy Airport amid reports of 100 ill passengers

"They said there are some passengers that are ill so we are going to go out on the runway and hang out".

These travelers exhibited similar symptoms to the 19 passengers, also travelling from Mecca, who were quarantined in New York Wednesday morning, according to customs officials.

Emirates announced Wednesday, September 5, that 10 passengers were taken ill on a 14-hour flight from Dubai to NY, where U.S. health authorities met the aircraft and ambulances ferried sick people to hospital.

The office of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday said a passenger plane had been quarantined amid reports that a large number of passengers on board were ill.

The CDC, Philadelphia Health Department and the Philadelphia Fire Department personnel performed medical evaluations on the passengers.

"Test results on the 10 hospitalized patients find influenza", press secretary Eric Phillips tweeted Thursday.

10 passengers and crew members were taken to hospital in NY, after feeling unwell following their arrival at JFK Airport, on a flight from Dubai. Passengers were required to fill out forms and have their temperature taken as they exited the plane.

The passengers remained on the airliner for more than three hours and medical screens were done on all 521 passengers.

He later corrected himself and said the flight from Dubai was direct to NY and that some of the ill passengers had travelled from Mecca before the flight.

Emirates flight 203, a double-deck Airbus A388 carrying about 500 passengers, landed shortly after 9 a.m. EDT (1300 GMT), according to an airlines spokeswoman.

Benjamin Haynes, a spokesperson for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, confirmed to TIME that the CDC was involved in evaluating passengers.

Not exactly the luxurious flight Emirates promises in its commercials.
