Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on course for inevitable conclusion

During Roger Federer's Round of 16 match on Monday against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the Swiss maestro showed off his cricketing skills in front of the All England Club at the prestigious Centre Court.

With South African Kevin Anderson taking nearly 3-1/2 hours to tame French showman Gael Monfils in a four-set thriller in the previous match, Djokovic was left with about two hours of daylight to complete his match against Karen Khachanov if wanted to avoid coming back on Tuesday again.

"I feel like a lot of aspects of my game can give him a lot of trouble", said Anderson, the first South African man in the Wimbledon quarter-finals since Wayne Ferreira in 1994.

"The one thing I can assure you is that Nadal has never struggled for one second with motivation and while he has not been at his best on grass in recent years, he will think he can do well this year".

At times it appeared the number two seed was playing on his beloved clay, such was the spin and bounce he extracted from the turf, but there was a brief hiccup in the third set.

The 36-year-old is more renowned for defending tennis titles than forward defences, but this dexterous left-handed shot displayed his innate sporting talent.

Federer remains unbroken in the tournament in reaching the last eight and has a very kind draw through to the showpiece final.

Rather than simply guiding the bouncing ball away and towards one of the ball kids, Federer thought it would be a good opportunity to provide some bonus entertainment for his adoring fans at Wimbledon.

Nadal, chasing an 18th major, leads former US Open champion Del Potro 10-5 and Simon 8-1.

The top-ranked Spaniard beat Jiri Vesely, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, on Centre Court to return to the last eight for the first time since he was runner-up to Novak Djokovic in 2011.

But there was no stopping the Serb once he made it on to Court One as he romped to a 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 win to reach the quarter-finals for a 10th time.

The 28-year-old Nishikori is the first Japanese man to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon since Shuzo Matsuoka in 1995.

But in a simply stunning two years since, the grand master has lost just seven of 88 matches and taken his record title haul to a magical 20 slams.

Cibulkova overcame a delay caused by a controversial decision from the umpire to advance to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Hsieh Su-Wei.

It's been seven years since Nadal last featured in a final at Wimbledon.

He was down a break in the third set but broke right back for 3-3 and then converted his third match point when Vesely missed a backhand. I thought it was a good scoreline, but it was tougher than the score, to be honest.

Angelique Kerber is not exactly a new face.

Serena Williams is back in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the 13th time after beating Russian qualifier Evgeniya Rodina, 6-4, 6-2.
