The former England global left the Emirates after the expiry of his contract, opening up a free transfer to West Ham, with whom he's signed a three-year deal. "It feels good and of course my family and a few of my friends are West Ham fans so everyone's buzzing".
Wilshere was born in Stevenage and was brought up in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, an hour's journey north of West Ham's old ground of Upton Park. Let us know in the comment section below.
Wilshere, who has 34 caps for England, ended his 17-year association with Arsenal at the beginning of the month and joins the club he supported as a boy on a free transfer.
Mario Husillos, director of football at West Ham, said he and Pellegrini had made Wilshere's signing a priority once they knew he would be available.
The central and attacking midfielders now on the books at West Ham include Cheik Kouyaté, Manuel Lanzini, Pedro Obiang and Mark Noble, meaning Wilshere's arrival can lead to a lot of rotation in the middle of the park as the season progresses.
"They called me not every day but a lot of times telling me to come here", he said.
He impressed on his return to Arsenal last season but the 34-cap England global was unable to force his way into the squad for the World Cup. It is telling that none of the Premier League's traditional "big hitters" appeared to be interested, while he never really seemed to be in contention for a place in England's World Cup squad either.
