Jim Inhofe on Wednesday said on a national talk radio show that Pruitt needs to put management problems behind him, otherwise one of the alternatives "would be for him to leave that job".
Virginia Canter, executive branch ethics counsel for the public watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said in an interview that Pruitt's having a full-time EPA employee "become the headhunter for his spouse" was "highly inappropriate" since the outcome of the search "would affect his financial interests". They criticized him for granting waivers to oil producers allowing them to ignore ethanol-blending rules.
A conservative nonprofit group based in Iowa also launched a 30-second ad calling for Pruitt's resignation, describing him as a "swamp monster" who is "embarrassing President Trump", the Washington Post reported. EPA officials said Pruitt took about an hour-long tour of the farm and then had a roundtable discussion with farmers, as well.
He suggested it may be time for Pruitt go.

"It's not a decision the EPA makes in isolation".
EPA, he said, should have "done its own homework", and the agency is now evaluating how the process was conducted.
Ingraham's call for Pruitt to be replaced as EPA chief also marked one of the first times a key member of the conservative press has broken publicly from supporting him, even amid the scandals surrounding him.
"Every day, something new comes up".
"Two of these companies that they handed waivers to made over a billion dollars a year ago", farmer David Fremark said.
Levin added, "I don't throw good people under the bus because the left targets them".
Inhofe used to chair the committee and now chairs one of its subcommittees. "From the Renewable Fuel Standard to the so-called 'Clean Power Plan, ' we are working hard to fulfill the agency's true mission while providing certainty to stakeholders in South Dakota and across the country".
"A spike? That's more than a spike".
Johnson said he appreciated Pruitt's philosophy to limit government regulation but said the position on biofuels needed change.
"We share most of Pruitt's views about environmental policy".
