Veteran actor Geeta Kapoor died on Saturday morning at a Mumbai hospital; she was 57.
Pandit, who had paid Geeta Kapoor's hospital bills a year ago, told Indian Express, "Geeta ji finally passed away, we tried our level best to care for her, but she finally gave up".
He also took to Twitter, posting videos from beside her mortal remains and of her friends from the old age home and he even shared some of her latest pictures. The actress played the character of Rajkumar's second wife in Pakeezah and was abandoned by her son past year at a hospital and never came back.
The filmmaker thanked producer Ramesh Taurani for his support.
The producer said, "Geeta ji finally passed away, we tried our level best to care for her, but she finally gave up".
Her body will be kept at Cooper Hospital Vileparle for two days hoping her Children to come and atleast do the last rites Otherwise We wl do our best to bid her a dignified good bye. Knowing about her status through media channels, noted filmmaker and CBFC member Ashok Pandit has come forward to clear the hospital charges and later, joined her at an old-age home in Mumbai.
She had acted in around 100 films in supporting roles/characters, including prominent ones in Kamal Amrohi's films Pakeezah, Razia Sultan. Raja, the actor's son had apparently abandoned her past year, and never returned to check on her. CBFC member Ashoke Pandit and filmmaker Ramesh Taurani had then paid the hospital bills of the veteran actor and cared for her. It is not confirmed yet if her children would come to perform the final rites or not. The actress had reportedly stated that he used to beat her, and later got her admitted to SRV Hospital in Goregaon to which he never returned when the hospital bills started mounting. Her daughter, Pooja, is an air hostess.
