Group description: A short blurb found under group info that will allow the user to set the objective, guidelines, or topics for the group. The description pops up at the top whenever someone new joins in. Facebook-owned WhatsApp recognizes the importance of Groups which is why the company has announced new features for this part of its app.
Group messaging has become increasingly important to WhatsApp in recent times, as users turn to the app to stay in touch not only with friends and family, but also business colleagues. There are also people coming together in groups on WhatsApp like new parents looking for support, students organising study sessions, and even city leaders coordinating relief efforts after natural disasters. All the new features will be applicable to new and existing groups.
WhatsApp has also made it easier for people to search for group participants online. The first new feature introduced today by WhatsApp is the group description with which there will be a small info about any group. While many may not be aware, WhatsApp has rolled out some group specific features as well.
Group catch up: One of the most demanded features in Groups was a way to find out whether someone called you out at some point and you can straight dive into it.
Group catch up: When you have been away from a group chat, quickly catch up on messages that mention or reply to you by tapping on a new @ button that appears at the bottom right corner of the chat.
Participant search: This new feature will let you find anyone in a group by searching for participants on the group info page.
WhatsApp admins have been given a new control under group settings that allows them to do a bunch of things that includes restricting who can change the groups's icon, description or subject. Lastly, WhatsApp says that users can not repeatedly rejoin groups that they have previously left.
WhatsApp users can now also use the new mentions feature in groups.
