CBS Minnesota's Mark Rosen reported the Vikings will sign Cousins on Wednesday, but Rapoport noted the transaction is not a done deal, although Minnesota is "in the driver's seat" on Cousins and is likely to sign him if the QB's visit goes well.
Earlier on Tuesday, Cousins' agent Mike McCartney told ESPN: "No final decisions have been made". "The plan is to visit Minnesota first. That's all we can say".
Cousins, who is searching for a new National Football League home after Washington traded for Alex Smith last month, wrote a farewell letter to the Redskins faithful on Monday. They will pick fifth overall in this year's draft and could go after defensive end Bradley Chubb, running back Saquon Barkley or guard Quenton Nelson. He started nine games in his first three seasons. But after the team placed the franchise tag on him the past two seasons, it no longer was in the bidding for Cousins' services. Last season's NFC championship game losers are clearly an attractive option for the 29-year-old, with a loaded roster and the added bonus of playing at least 9 games a year in a dome.
Along with Bradford, Teddy Bridgewater is also a free agent after spending eight weeks as the Vikings' No. 2 quarterback.
While Keenum to Denver has a sexy sound to it, it doesn't seem like the Broncos want Keenum back in the AFC. With an estimated $100 million in cap space this offseason, the Jets were willing to give Cousins a contract in which he would be given $60 million in his first year alone. He finished with 4,093 yards, 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
As much as I like Case Keenum, and as much as I like the quarterbacks in this year's draft class, I don't really like the idea of one of them sitting on the bench for the Broncos. As a result, Elway jumped on arguably the second-hottest quarterback target on the market.
With that said, I trust Rick Spielman to do the right thing, and if that means Cousins on an insanely rich but somewhat short-term contract, I'll get on board and hope for the best.
Note: These players aren't necessarily ones that have been in the news related to the team.
