Jose Mourinho goes in on Frank de Boer after Marcus Rashford comments

"Tomorrow is a very hard match, playing against a team that didn't lose against Liverpool home or away [in the group stage], that drew in Liverpool and I say Liverpool because they are an example of a very good team in a big stadium with a big tradition".

The Reds slumped to a disappointing defeat by their bitter local rivals at Old Trafford as Marcus Rashford struck twice in the first half for Jose Mourinho's men to notch up the victory for the home side.

"A disaster?" he said."We won 2-1 against Liverpool and there were some who said it was a disaster".

"He started, he had a good match and I'm not just speaking about scoring goals because, for me, the analysis of a performance is much more than analysing the number of goals or assists", said Jose Mourinho, as reported by the club's website.

He said: "Right now, I'm probably not learning the most on the pitch".

"You have to take it into the game and today it worked".

"But in the moment I can not, and I don't want to, think about anything else. The more you do, the easier the results come on the pitch".

Rashford desperately needed a rest prior to Sanchez's arrival.

"But my experiences from the past mean I understand that's part of the game".

He added: "In football you are going to be up, you're going to be down". There are only 11 players that can start - it's just one of those things. "Sometimes you are in the team, sometimes you are not in the team".

Plus, there is little chance for Rashford to get down when he is around the likes of outgoing team-mate and close friend Jesse Lingard - an academy graduate whose patience eventually paid dividends at United.

It appears as though they have instantly forgotten that the youngster was the Portuguese boss's preferred option at the start of the season, but it was his own poor form, coupled with the hard work and brilliant form of Anthony Martial, that saw him dropped in the first place.

The youngster though doesn't feel as though he needs an explanation from his manager and understands that he won't be starting every match United play in.

"I don't think we're candidates to win the competition".
