Disney announces new Star Wars: Rivals action shooter for Android and iOS

Now up for pre-registration on Google Play, Star Wars: Rivals is a PvP title, all about ducking behind cover, moving to better positions, and blowing away your enemies.

Many fan-favorite characters from the original trilogy and recent movies are in the game.

Though, that shouldn't be too surprising for Star Wars fans to find out, as Disney is always looking to make some money. I've never been a huge mobile gamer, but the recent Star Wars mobile games have looked somewhat interesting, and now there's a new one.

Lucasfilm also applied for a trademark on Star Wars: Rivals on February 23, 2017. The new PvP mobile game features cover-base third-person shooter gameplay and the franchise's most popular characters. Though, a lot of people are speculationg Lucasfilms will release Star Wars: Rivals as an animated show.

Heros can be swapped in and out of battles at any given time, and there are quite a few to choose from - including Darth Vader, Captain Phasma, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Jyn Erso, Chewbacca, and others. Sadly no Jar Jar yet. By downloading Star Wars: Rivals from Google Play, Android owners will get access to Death Trooper support units while iOS owners get access to Rebel Special Forces support units when the game officially launches. Master special abilities unique to the Star Wars universe like Darth Vaders Choke and Admiral Ackbars devastating Orbital Strike.

Players will also be able to form teams of the same faction like the Rebellion, Empire, First Order and Underworld.

Compete in PvP Arenas: Dominate your opponents in this fast-paced PvP shooter as you challenge players cross-platform in real-time combat arenas. Since the game supports cross-platform play, we have a feeling that this could lead to some fun battles. Available for a limited time at launch, death troopers (Rogue One‘s black-armor clad elite Imperial forces) fight alongside players in PvP skirmishes using advanced weaponry to lay down cover fire.
