The two presidents also agreed to collaborate in the fields of artificial intelligence, climate protection and counterterrorism.
During meetings Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping articulated a vision at odds with Trump's world view.
"We can't blame them for that because we have forced very tough privatizations on them", Macron said.
"As a major European country, France can also play a pioneering role in solving some of the lingering issues overshadowing China's co-operation with the continent, notably the market economy status", it said.
Foreign direct investment in the European Union traced back to mainland China has surged in recent years, to a record 35 billion euros ($42 billion) in 2016 from 1.6 billion euros in 2010, according to the Mercator Institute for China Studies.
Macron echoed Xi's call on reinforcing bilateral cooperation within the framework of building the Belt and Road, saying that such collaboration is of great strategic significance.

'The two countries can enhance political mutual trust and fully tap the potential of cooperation transcending differences on the social system, development stage and culture, ' Xi said.
Macron, accompanied by some 50 French business leaders, has laid on the charm during his visit, giving Xi a horse from the Republican Guard as a gift.
During an official visit to Beijing, he said that too often in the past, European countries had come to China with some seeking more openness and others wary of granting more access to their markets.
U.S. and European firms also complain about being forced to hand over intellectual property secrets in order to gain market access. Macron said France could help, especially in Africa, with the Chinese-led initiative to build a "new Silk Road" of railways, ports and other infrastructure across Asia and Europe.
