The Indian Greco Roman Style Wrestling Team participating at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in South Africa's Johannesburg has done country proud by clinching ten gold and as many silver medals on the first day of the tournament, reports ANI. India's other wrestler in same category, Parveen Rana won a bronze medal.
Besides that, Pooja won silver in 76 kg, while Ravita won in 59 kg.
Among the gold-medal winners on Sunday were Kiran (72 kg), Divya Kakran (68 kg) and Ritu Malik (65 kg).
The competition will be held as per the following schedule: Dec 15: Greco Roman Style (all 10 weight categories).
A 60-member team from India landed in Johannesburg, South Africa to take part in the competition. The event will last till December 17. The squad comprised of wrestlers from all over India but the cynosure of all eyes was Sushil Kumar, who was returning to global scenario after a long hiatus of three years. Sushil retured to competitive wrestler in November at the Senior Nationals in Indore where he won a gold medal but that was amid controversy as he was given three walkovers from his fellow wrestlers.
