After an Instagram user left a comment on one of Couric's recent posts, asking for her opinion on Lauer's firing, Couric replied with a polite but short answer.
"Today" co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announced Lauer's firing Wednesday, telling viewers at the top of the show that they were processing his departure but didn't yet know all of the details.
Meanwhile, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live in 2012 Couric revealed that Lauer "pinches me on the a** a lot" while playing a game of "Plead the Fifth".
Couric was surprised by her follower's comment, but she chose to respond amicably.
Couric and Lauer had a close relationship while working together.
In 2011, Couric also dished on her relationship with her then co-host, Lauer. "Meredith Vieira warms my heart". Keep bending over like that.
"We can say unequivocally, that, prior to Monday night, current NBC News management was never made aware of any complaints about Matt Lauer's conduct", the spokesperson said.
Lauer was sacked by NBC after an employee met NBC News' human resource, allegedly accusing Lauer of inviting her to his hotel room late at night while covering the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia in 2014.
Subsequent news reports included accusations from multiple women who described Lauer as a sexual predator over several years, and suggested that NBC executives had received complaints about his behavior at the time.
