Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Detective Pikachu in the upcoming movie

Detective Pikachu has finally tracked down the man who will provide his voice in the upcoming live-action Pokémon movie from Legendary Pictures.

THR reports the Deadpool actor joins Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Little Big Lies) on the flick.

Filming on the project is expected to start soon.

Ryan Reynolds is readying to catch 'em all in a new installment of one of the world's biggest franchises. While Reynolds will reportedly be in a motion capture suit for his time as the good detective that can harness the power of lightning, they're slated to be normal humans. The film will follow Smith's character who attempts to find his kidnapped father and enlists the help of Detective Pikachu to get the job done.

Though Pokemon began life as a card collecting game, it soon spread itself into multiple arenas, with a variety of anime shows and video games.

Reynolds will play Detective Pikachu himself. Despite Mr. DeVito's comments when the project was announced previous year, it looks like Ryan Reynolds will be voicing the character, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Other information within The Hollywood Reporter's article states that "Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman wrote the latest draft of the script". Universal Pictures will handle distribution in the USA and in foreign territories outside Japan.
