Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them star Carmen Ejogo is climbing aboard the upcoming third season of True Detective, Deadline reports. She'll play an Arkansas schoolteacher connected to two missing children in 1980. Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room) has signed to helm episodes alongside series creator Nic Pizzolatto. Ali plays the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.
The first season of True Detective starred McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, with the second starring Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, and Rachel McAdams.
After a significant search with several major names under consideration, the anthology thriller has tapped Carmen Ejogo to star alongside Mahershala Ali. David Milch (Deadwood) is writing at least one episode of this third crime story. Pizzolatto, who is under contract with HBO through 2018, is also now developing a Perry Mason series with Robert Downey Jr. for the cable network. Rounding out the executive producing team are Steve Golin, Bard Dorros and Richard Brown. The English-Nigerian actress can now be seen on the second season of The Girlfriend Experience, and has the Denzel Washington-led flick Roman J. Israel, Esq. up next in her docket. Her feature credits include It Comes at Night, Alien: Covenant and the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald.
