It may be mentioned that, besides killing two jawans, six others were injured in the blast suspected to be triggered by militants near Chandel district headquarters yesterday morning at around 6 am.
Report reaching here said that the Assam Rifle troopers were on road patrol duty when the blast took place.
One of the Assam Rifles personnel died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries, police sources said.
Additional forces from neighbouring districts have rushed to launch a massive combing operation. The injured personnel have been taken to Leimakhong army hospital for medical aid. Bhavananda Singh, Director General of Police Shri L.M. Khaute, Deputy Commissioner of Chandel District, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Major General Virendra Singh and other top paramilitary officials also laid wreaths to the mortal remains of the two Assam Rifles jawans namely, Sohan Lal and Inder Singh.
The injured were N Shyam Kumar, S Sarkar, Tirendra Nath Das, Ram Govind Singh, Nirmal Roy and Lalnunpuia, they said.
Today's blast is vehemently condemn by Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation (CNPO) and its sub-ordinate bodies.
Meanwhile, holding placards condemning the bomb blast (near Mahamani church), some women from Chandel held a sit-in-protest.
Villagers of Mahamani, Kanankhu Khurinkhu, Sinadam and Daampi areas participated in the protest.
All shops and business establishment remained closed.
The CNPO statement further said that if those involved in the blast fails to clarify over the attack with reason within midnight of November 15, it will call 24-hour total bandh from midnight of November 15 at Pallel to Chandel and Chandel to Moreh road.
