The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed for an urgent hearing in the All India Foodball Federation's (AIFF) petition to stay Delhi High Court's October 31 order quashing its elections held on December 21 previous year under the supervision of retired Justice B C Kandpal.
The petition pointed out how FIFA suspended affiliation of the Pakistan Football Federation on Lahore High Court appointing an administrator on it as the FIFA statute a federation is not recognised if functioning through a non-elected body. We are seeking a stay on it (high court's order).
The high court had set aside the election of NCP leader Praful Patel as AIFF president, citing that the election process was not as per requirements of the National Sports Code. He alleged that AIFF election was conducted in ull compliance with the exis ing rules and regulations and here was nothing illegal.
Tiwari contended that Federation Internationale de Football Association recognised only elected sports ederations and AIFF would not be allowed to place its bid to host he World Cup if its elected office-bearers were not allowed to hold the post.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court on 31 October 31 had set aside the election of Patel and appointed former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi as the AIFF administrator.
Previously, Patel has been in the Ministry of Civil Aviation and heavy industries.
