It has been three years since Apple first released a Mac mini update, leaving several people wondering if the company was going to cut this product from the shelf.
Many rumors have suggested that Apple have stopped updating the Mac Mini, but now it looks like Apple has plans for the device in the future. The Mac Mini user who emailed Cook wanted to find out if Apple plans to update it anytime soon. A lot of critics also believed that the tech giant was going to throw out its Mac Pro out the window, but we were pleasantly surprised that we will be graced with a new product from next year. If you happen to be one of those folks on the Mac Mini bandwagon, we've got some good news for you.
Cook has not made a decision to reveal the hardware that's expected to be part of the Mac mini so we can only rely on speculation at this point. Rumours have also pointed to a new model that "won't be so mini anymore" suggesting this will be a more high-end machine.
If you recall, Schiller, in response to a question from John Paczkowski, said the following: "On that I'll say the Mac Mini is an important product in our lineup and we weren't bringing it up because it's more of a mix of consumer with some pro use".
It has certainly been a while since Apple released an update to its Mac Mini line.
However, the current version is now outdated compared to the Macs currently on the market. A 2018 announcement is much more likely, and based on that, it means that the computer could be outfitted with new Kaby Lake Refresh chips and quad-core performance.
