Two schoolgirls were killed and another student was left injured after a Shiv Sena leader's vehicle ran over them in Pune's Baramati town. Mane is said to be absconding after the incident was reported.
"Both the girls died on the spot while the third girl sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital", the police officer said.
According to CNN-News18, the incident took place at 7.40 am on Thursday when three girls were walking home. Police have identified the deceased girls as Sameeksha, 12, and Divya, 13.
According to locals, the auto belongs to the Shiv Sena Baramati unit chief Pappu Mane.
The person driving the vehicle has been apprehended by the agitated locals who have reportedly set the auto on fire.
The police are registering a case and are now searching for Mane.
They managed to nab the driver of the vehicle who was later handed over to police. The local police have registered a case of hit and run and are on the lookout for the Shiv Sena leader. Local reports suggest that the two girls were attempting to cross the road when they were mowed down by the SUV.
