Adding to the same is Tamil superstar Vijay's film Mersal.
The veracity of this rumor however will come to light only after the release of the film in October 18.
"The character name of the bearded Vijay sir name in the film is Thalapathy, it's not a trick to impress him but the character demands such a powerful name", said Atlee.
Now, it is being reported that the film will witness the biggest release ever for a Tamil flick, even overtaking the likes of Mahesh Babu's SPYder and SS Rajamouli's Baahubali. Although there were reports of the release getting delayed due to the ongoing battle over double taxation in Tamil Nadu between the Tamil Film Producer's council and government, the makers are however making all essential arrangements to ensure that the film releases to shatter all box office records.
Hema Rukmani, the CEO of Mersal's production house, Sri Thenandal Films, recently tweeted saying that the Vijay starrer is touted to release in 3292 screens globally. In Kerala, it's releasing in 350 screens, surpassing the previous record of 320 screens by Baahubali 2.
Owing to the uncertainty over the film's release, theatre owners are yet to open the advance-booking option.
The film marks the collaboration of Atlee and Vijay for the second time after last year's Tamil blockbuster Theri. Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menen play the leading ladies in the upcoming film. The posters and trailers of the film received positive response from the audience. What needs to be seen is whether Mersal, given its very high budget, can make it big at the box-office or not.
This news, just a week ahead of the film's release, is a nice change given the tumultuous situation in the Tamil film industry.
Mersal is likely to release in over 3,300 screens.
