We knew that Thursday's results had opened a window for Ireland, with both Scotland and England eventually managing home wins against Slovakia and Slovenia respectively, but last night's result in Croatia was a more unexpected delight.

Croatia's fate will be decided on Monday when they travel to Ukraine.
