Meanwhile, the weekend will see Bristol Sport's ladies teams take centre stage, as members of Bristol City Women, Bristol Flyers Women and Bristol Rugby Ladies will be present at the Fiesta. It takes place in a large country estate Ashton Court.
Some 130 balloons are taking part in this year's Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.
Another mass ascent is scheduled for 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The festival, which is Europe's largest balloon festival, is now in its 39th year and attracts around half a million visitors annually. It is common to have crowds of over 100,000 on each of the four days of the festival.
The mass ascents are always dependent on good weather, and one was planned at 6pm this evening.
There are still vehicle parking passes available for Sunday 13 August.
The best way to get there is by train from Cardiff Central to Bristol Temple Meads.
