Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez says that he is honoured and humbled upon being named African Player of the Year.
Mahrez has therefore been confirmed as the 25th African Player of the Year, building on a highly successful year for his English club in which they beat 5000-1 odds to lift the Premier League title.

The African Footballer of the Year is chosen by a poll of national team coaches and a panel of media experts.
He beat 2015 victor Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon and Borrusia Dortmund who had 313 votes in second place, and Sadio Mane of Senegal and Liverpool who was third with 186 votes.
Sam Mgbada, the immediate past Youth and Sports Commissioner in the state, regretted that no Nigerian player was in the race for the best player's award.
