The NHL’s Dallas Stars have become the first Texas professional sports franchise to officially oppose a “bathroom bill” targeting transgender people.
The Dallas Stars stand strongly opposed to any legislation perceived to be discriminatory, including proposed bathroom legislation.
Lites also said the team chose to move to Dallas 25 years ago because of its warm and welcoming nature.
The Stars are the first team in Texas to publicly state their opposition to the controversial bill.
The Dallas Stars have officially come out in opposition of the proposed bathroom legislation now up for debate in the Texas Legislature’s Special Session, joining a long list of companies and government officials to speak out.
“We are proud of our home and want every visitor to feel at home here, too, and that’s why we oppose this discriminatory legislation”, Lites wrote. The different bills either block local ordinances in effect that protect transgender citizens or restrict bathroom use based on biological sex.
Cuban doesn’t believe the proposed bill is hurting Texas businesses now, but warned against excusing the behavior of “crazy, entertaining state politicians who are merely a sideshow”.
The NHL isn’t likely to pull the draft unless the law is passed, and even then there’s no guarantee that the league would do anything as drastic as the National Basketball Association and NCAA’s actions against North Carolina a year ago.
