Weather warning as United Kingdom braced for summer downpours

A YELLOW weather warning for rain has been issued across Sussex by the Met Office.

A statement says: “A slow-moving weather system affecting south eastern parts of Britain will give 20-40 mm of rain quite widely across the area, with perhaps as much as 60-80 mm in places through the whole day”. Some areas may miss the showers entirely whilst others could see 2 to 3 hours of heavy rain.

Some transport routes may be affected by localised flooding leading to longer journey times.

It said some parts of the country could get 40mm of rain in four hours, with the weather warnings lasting into Wednesday.

The warning comes three weeks after heavy rain lashed the country and led to flash flooding in the coastal village of Coverack.

Two sets of cold fronts combined with areas of low pressure will move across western Europe on Tuesday triggering heavy showers and thunderstorms for an area covering France, Germany and the Alps.

“In addition localised flooding of homes and businesses is possible”.

There is even the chance of a tornado among the storms containing hail, high winds, and intense lightning.
