Geoffrey Berman of Princeton was listed as a potential U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY in a package of proposed candidates for NY judicial and prosecutorial vacancies sent to the state’s U.S. senators in July, Buzzfeed said, citing a source familiar with the process.
The White House is mulling a replacement for the US attorney seat left vacant since Preet Bharara’s firing – and he’s a fellow law partner of Rudy Giuliani.

He had served in the Justice Department before as an assistant United States attorney in the Southern District of NY from 1990 to 1994, according to his law firm’s website. Following the president’s decision, Bharara announced that he was sacked after he refused to step down. “We have built our portfolio around distinct personalities, and “Stay Tuned With Preet” promises to bring podcast audiences and people interested in our political and legal culture something new, relevant, and utterly engaging”, New York Public Radio CEO Laura Walker said in Variety. Trump had originally asked Bharara to stay on as the country’s most prominent USA attorney following Trump’s election win previous year.
“I understand @realDonaldTrump may have called the White House a ‘dump, ‘” Bharara wrote a few days ago on the social media site, following news reports that Trump had disparaged the presidential residence. Bharara left his post in March after refusing to accept U.S. Attorney General Jeff Session’s request that 46 U.S. attorneys appointed during President Barack Obama’s administration.
The DHS says that the deputy chief information officer will take over until President Trump can appoint a permanent replacement.
