Microsoft also posted a blog update which made clear that beta access for the Xbox One will be coming shortly – “in the coming days” to be a little less vague.
The music streaming service will finally launch soon on the Xbox One, two years after Spotify was released for the PlayStation 4.
Similarly to how Spotify works on PS4, Microsoft says the Xbox One version of the app will be able to function in the background, pumping out the jams without taking up any precious screen real estate.
The new app, which is available from the Xbox Store from today, features background listening meaning you can soundtrack games with your own personal music taste.
“The new integration means that millions of Xbox One gamers can now choose the flawless music from Spotify to provide a fresh gaming soundtrack every time”.
Browse playlists from different genres and moods. Or check out new releases. Users can search for music through the app, launch playback from their libraries, queue up playlists, and so on. Minecraft will also be keeping the children safe, because Xbox Live provides parent control for all platforms and will let parents restrict and choose the content, adjust communication or settings regarding sharing content, making it a proper and family-friendly solution for gaming.
The arrival of Spotify for Xbox One quickly moved from being a rumor to a confirmed fact over the weekend, and we now have our first look at what the music streaming service will look like on the console. It continues playing when you return to your game via the Xbox menu.
Alternatively, use Spotify Connect to use your phone to control the music remotely.
“The Better Together Update will enable players to discover new content and creations across all devices, as well as the option to find new and like-minded players, as with any multiplayer game”.
