Parts of the right side of the political spectrum in the United States have already defended Mr. Damore’s stances, supporting his polarizing memo that claimed women aren’t as biologically suitable to be software engineers as men are, a notion that the vast majority of the company’s employees labeled as sexist and generally discriminatory.
“They too feel under threat, and that’s not OK”, he wrote.
The essay by the male engineer began to circulate within the company last week. Damore continued with his perception of the personality differences between men and women.
“Despite what the public response seems to have been, I’ve gotten many personal messages from fellow Googlers expressing their gratitude for bringing up these very important issues which they agree with but would never have the courage to say or defend because of our shaming culture and the possibility of being fired”.
Google is teaching girls that their path to “financial freedom” lies in “complaining to HR”, the managing director of a Peter Thiel investment fund said on Tuesday, drawing sharp criticism on social media.
Tesla fired a former female engineer after she accused the company of gender discrimination and sexual harassment and filed a lawsuit over the allegations.
Tim Miller, co-founder of the America Rising PAC, said Damore is being banished for “thought crimes”.
Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai told employees in a note on Monday that portions of the anti-diversity memo “violate our Code of Conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace”.
Google’s new Vice President of Diversity, Integrity & Governance Danielle Brown sent a memo to employees; according to Motherboard, she wrote, “Many of you have read an internal document shared by someone in our engineering organization, expressing views on the natural abilities and characteristics of different genders, as well as whether one can speak freely of these things at Google”.
Do you understand that at this point, I could not in good conscience assign anyone to work with you? He added: “I certainly couldn’t assign any women to deal with this, a good number of the people you might have to work with may simply punch you in the face, and even if there were a group of like-minded individuals I could put you with, nobody would be able to collaborate with them”.
Assange, who is praised in some circles for exposing government secrets and castigated by others as an underminer of some nations’ security, offered Damore a job. This includes employees who are junior to them. It was a decision to protect women from a hostile workplace environment.
For now, most of these companies are still dominated by white or Asian men, but more companies are working to change that.
