National Basketball Association star Steph Curry shoots 74 at professional golf debut

Steph Curry is putting himself out there this week, teeing it up on the Web.com Tour in the 2017 Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae, marking the first time the two-time National Basketball Association most valuable player is competing in a high-level professional golf tournament.

He even put an imitation in there, too.

The first unanimous MVP in National Basketball Association history got off to a shaky start by hooking his opening tee shot into a golf cart cup holder and making three bogeys in his initial five holes. This was a crucial part of his day. After missing the green with his second shot by a few yards, Curry chipped up to about 5 feet for an uphill par putt, which he made. Curry stemmed the tide by draining a 20-footer for birdie. Oh, absolutely. We can tell because Curry didn’t do any normal celebration after draining that one … he mimicked Jordan Spieth’s already famous “Go get that!” gesture from his British Open win. Curry explained the reaction in full after the round.

It’s still unlikely that Curry will stay the weekend, but his eight-year National Basketball Association career and short pro golf career have certainly taught us to expect the unexpected.
