Tracking the Tropics: The Action News JAX First Alert Weather Team is monitoring an area of low pressure moving off the west coast of Africa. Emily dumped as much as eight inches of rain over much of Florida on Monday but was expected to weaken to a tropical depression after making a morning landfall on the state’s west coast, the National Hurricane Center said.No injuries or major property damage has been reported.
The disturbance near Venezuela may drift into the southern Gulf, with a medium chance of forming into a tropical depression.
Meanwhile, in the far eastern Tropical Atlantic, another disturbance is looking more organized on satellite imagery as compared to 24 hours ago, and the NHC now gives this system a high chance, at 70%, for development over the next few days.
The system could become a tropical depression by early next week, according to the 2 a.m. outlook written by forecaster Eric Blake.
Forecasters watching 2 weather systems in Atlantic for tropical development
The system should move toward the west or west-northwest at 10 miles per hour to 15 miles per hour for the next several days.
According to the NHC, the tropical wave has a 20% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
However, forecasters added conditions are expected to become “a little more conducive for development” by Sunday over the northwestern Caribbean Sea.
Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao might experience brief heavy rainfall and gusty winds Thursday night and Friday because of the tropical wave, forecasters stated.
