Dublin Airport advises passengers to prepare for BUSY bank holiday weekend

Passengers across the continent have been met with delays, and those travelling through Dublin are being warned to brace for long queues.

The airport will be particularly busy this weekend because of the bank holiday, with 400,000 people expected to pass through. Aer Lingus have issued the following advice.

Travellers are also being reminded to avoid causing excess delays at security screening by ensuring they don’t carry prohibited items such as large liquids and scissors.

During the peak summer season, guests are advised to arrive at Dublin Airport a minimum of 3 hours before your scheduled departure time.

Anyone heading to the US are advised to complete US Preclearance two hours before take-off.

The airport saw a record 27.9million passengers pass through previous year, up 11 per cent on 2015.

Passenger numbers reached 2.9million in June, a 6 per cent increase on the same month a year ago.

“The new European Union passport checks apply in Schengen countries, they do not apply in Ireland, so there is no change here”, said a representative for the DAA in a statement.

Ireland is one of a small number of countries in the European Union that is not a part of the Schengen area, but Irish passport holders may experience knock-on delays.

The increased security measures are a result of recent terror attacks.
