Alexa Can Now Stream Music Suited To Specific Activities

Amazon’s Alexa can now respond to your awkward request to play “hook-up music“.

Today, Amazon is rolling out “activities”, a feature that allows users of Alexa-enabled devices to play music based on what they’re doing.

Amazon says that over 500 activities are included in the update, ranging from the more mundane – like meditation, working out, or falling asleep – to a bit more. creative scenarios like “getting pumped”, “hooking up”, or “baby making”.

If you’d still like to hear a certain genre, Alexa can handle those more specific requests as well.

With the new features, Alexa users can also pair their activities with genres that for now include pop, country, jazz, classic rock or classical. Saturdays saw the highest requests for activities on Amazon Music.

The company also put out data on “sexy” music, which apparently happens more often in the early evenings.

The commands work as another small way for Amazon to connect its devices and services together, in hopes to keeping people subscribed to Prime as well as its monthly subscriptions such as Audible, Music Unlimited and Kindle Unlimited.

If you’ve ever wanted to listen to music while meditating but haven’t been sure where to start, Alexa is going to take care of that for you now.

Amazon’s move towards activities would seem to mirror the ascendance of mood and activity playlists on all the music streaming services.

This is part of a push to make Alexa more conversational in nature.
