More than 60 per cent of India’s runs. Fan! “Harmanpreet Kaur striking the ball beautifully!” She is young and will learn from mistakes.
After the former India opener wished Harmanpreet for her stunning knock in the semi-finals deeming it “an innings of a lifetime”, the women’s all-rounder took to social media to respond, “Thank you Idol, @virendersehwag, It was pleasure doing what you have been doing over the years”.
Former India captain Shubhangi Kulkarni described Harmanpreet Kaur’s unbeaten 171 off 115 against Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup semifinal in Derby as “brilliant” and said that the latter is a “big match” player. He used to take Harmanpreet to a ground and started coaching her until she was in Class 11 or 12.
Harmandar Singh said that Harmanpreet has promised him that India will lift the Cup. She has been praised and tweeted out by the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev and Virender Sehwag among several others since then. I am quite sure she will work on her weaknesses and better her game. “Keep her quiet and England should be in business”, Hussain wrote in his column for the Daily Mail. “She never strayed from her line of concentration even when the boys indulged in sledging”. Harmanpreet was fuming at non-striker Deepti Sharma, who is eight years younger, as both had to dive to make their respective creases so that India’s No. 4 completed her third ODI hundred. She has been consistent throughout her career. “Having different shoes has been her passion and now we sarcastically seek her advice on buying shoes”, says Yadwinder. “She plays with her brother and father whenever she is home – be it volleyball or football”. It is her dream-come-true that she is representing the country. “We are proud of her”, Kaur said.
This is India’s second entry into the Women’s World Cup, having lost to Australia in their first attempt in 2005 at Centurion.
