Before announcing her vote, board member Susan Jackson said the board did not look kindly on parole violations and warned Simpson that any breach would swiftly end him up back in jail.
O.J. Simpson was granted parole on Thursday after spending nine years in prison for an attempted armed robbery he committed in Las Vegas in 2007.
Simpson said he never pointed a gun at anyone nor made any threats during the crime that put him in prison, and he forcefully insisted that almost all the memorabilia he saw in two dealers’ hotel room belonged to him. LaVergne says Simpson was a model inmate who had positive interactions with corrections department officials.
He must obey ALL laws, which was made totally clear by one parole board member.
He said he welcomes the idea of Simpson moving to Collier County. “He made a mistake”, Fromong said, adding that the two remain friends.
Legwold noted Simpson said during his parole hearing that he wanted to live in Florida, so he “could conceivably attend the annual enshrinement weekend once any restrictions that come with his parole allow for travel”.
After hearing the testimonies, the board granted Mr. Simpson parole. He also still has that big civil suit that involed the family’s of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.
He says that of Florida won’t allow Simpson to move there, the department would work with him for a plan to stay in Nevada or to pick another state if he has a plan and support system.
Simpson was convicted in 2008, and the long prison sentence brought a measure of satisfaction to some of those who thought he got away with murder.
A decade later, Simpson was sentenced to 33 years in prison with eligibility for parole in nine years after he led a group of men and stole sports memorabilia from Fromong at gunpoint.
“And if he called me tomorrow and said ‘Bruce, I’m getting out, will you pick me up?'”, Fromong said while looking at Simpson, “I’ll be here tomorrow”.
