“The Newlyweds“, a reality show about Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey being um, newlyweds is back in the news. He father was reportedly very involved in her life.
In a new interview with Complex, Sue Kolinsky dished on the “tension” between the pair, as well as the show’s success and Simpson’s “dumb blonde” act. “Plus, [Nick & Jessica] were flawless because they were polar opposites, they were attractive, and without even realizing it, they were very amusing”.
“There were times when we were like, “Hm, does she really not know what this means?'” Kolinsky said”.
Kolinsky revealed while she had “no idea” who Simpson was before signing on as a producer, once they started shooting, she immediately realized the show would be a success.
“Newlyweds” came to an end in 2005 and the final season aired just months before their high-profile divorce. Did she know this was going to happen, and thus had this joke in the can?! “I truly believe the whole ‘chicken & fish” situation was accurate.
If you don’t remember, back in 2003, Jessica and her former husband Nick Lachey were eating tuna fish when she asked, “Is this chicken, what I have, or is this fish? Nick said, ‘It’s in rigor mortis, ‘ and Jessica said, ‘Riga-what?’ I truly believe she didn’t know what that meant”. He wanted a family, and her father [Joe Simpson] thought maybe she was too young. And since then, both Simpson and Lachey have moved on to find love again.
Simpson, who is now married to former National Football League player Eric Johnson, previously joked about her faux pas in November 2016. Lachey also married TV personality and model Vanessa Minnillo in 2016. They share three kids: Camden John, 4, Brooklyn Elisabeth, 2, and Phoenix Robert, 1.
At the time, we all laughed at the Dukes of Hazzard star’s naivety.
