Despite rumors that Oasis would reunite at Sunday’s One Love Manchester benefit show, only one member – Liam Gallagher – showed up for a surprise appearance.
As an unannounced guest, Liam performed Oasis classic “Rock And Roll Star” and new single “Wall Of Glass” before Coldplay’s Chris Martin joined him for “Live Forever”.
Chris didn’t seem to carry a grudge, however. Meanwhile, Liam managed to perform in Germany before jetsetting back to the United Kingdom to perform a surprise set at the concert in Manchester.
Perhaps the most interesting pairing of the day was Coldplay and ex-Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, who teamed for an acoustic version of Oasis’s “Live Forever”.
The star-studded benefit concert was organized by Ariana Grande, and featured performances by Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Robbie Williams, Take That, Black Eyed Peas, Marcus Mumford, former One Direction star Niall Horan, and Pharrell Williams.
Since the demise of Beady Eye, his post-Oasis band in 2014, Liam Gallagher’s concerned himself more with his clothing line and his always-entertaining stream of tweets, (with the most interesting ones often targeting older brother Noel).
What was your favorite moment from the show?
Apologizing on Noel’s behalf for his absence, Liam described himself as “very disappointed” and told the city to “stay lovely stay safe” – a fairly benign swipe given the brothers’ long history of public feuding. “Love get on a f-king plane and play your tunes for the kids you sad f-k”.
These donations are targeted at alleviating the suffering of the victims’ families and at supporting injured people from the attack.
Newsbeat contacted representatives for Noel Gallagher who referred a statement they put out last week.
Lisa Moorish has spoken out in defence of Noel Gallagher, saying that he was with Liam’s daughter during the One Love Manchester concert. If he wants to write things down I’ll give him a pen and a pad of paper. “He’s part of the establishment”, he told a crowd.
Who better than Noel and Liam to show their home town of Manchester that love conquers all by ending their animosity in such a public way? “Because I’ve seen him coming for years”.
