It will be subjected to a series of orbit maneuvers in the coming weeks to take it to the vicinity of the moon, with the rover soft landing planned on September 7. We are going to conduct a manoeuvre called trans-lunar injection.
India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle launched Chandrayaan-2 in July. "On August 20, the spacecraft will be reaching moon and we'll be carrying out lunar orbit insertion".
The mission's lander is named for Vikram Sarabhai, considered the father of India's space agency and an important figure in the development modern science, physical research and atomic energy.
He said that the spacecraft is now revolving around the earth.
Later, through a set of manoeuvres, the orbit of Chandrayaan-2 around the moon will be circularised at a height of 100 km from the lunar surface. The move will put the spacecraft on a trajectory that will put the probe into orbit around the moon on August 20. Vikram is expected to land on the lunar south pole on September 7 after Chandrayaan-2 that carries it moves out of the Earth's gravitational field.
All the systems of the spacecraft were inspected thoroughly and they were found to be in good condition functioning properly.
India aims to send astronauts to space by December 2021, the chief of ISRO said today. "This is for the first time we are going to have this mission", he said.
