The father of one of the teens wanted in connection to the murder of Australian man Lucas Fowler and his girlfriend has told the media that the pair "liked to play war" and had devoted themselves to training and camouflage.
Security camera images recorded in Saskatchewan of Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, are displayed as Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Kevin Hackett speaks during a news conference in Surrey, British Columbia, on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.
Investigators have yet to confirm if that vehicle is the grey 2011 Toyota Rav 4 the two men were last seen driving.
"If you spot Bryer or Kam, consider them risky", said Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The bodies of Chynna Deese, 24, and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Lucas Fowler, were discovered July 15 on the side of Alaska Highway 97.
Chief Insp. Stephen Fowler of the New South Wales Police Force says he spoke with his globe-trotting son Lucas Fowler before he and his American girlfriend Chynna Deese left on a road trip from northern B.C.
"Two young people who had everything ahead of them tragically murdered".
Police have a composite sketch of a man who used to be seen talking to Lucas alongside the highway and are asking for the general public's assistance, they accept as true with he used to be driving an older Jeep Cherokee with a racing stripe on the tip of the roof.
'At this point, we have nothing to indicate that their deaths are linked to any other active and ongoing investigations in the area, or if there is a heightened risk to public safety, ' Janelle Shoihet, media relations office for the RCMP, said in a statement. "I want to ensure that people are aware that we're doing everything that we can in order to ensure that we can advance this investigation to the best of our abilities and find the person or persons responsible", she later added.
From there, they were flown by a police aeroplane to Vancouver on Thursday after being placed in metal caskets to ensure any clues that would help identify their killer were not interfered with. Nearby, they found an unidentified man's body.
As an experienced police officer I know how these investigations go.
Earlier this week, cops made a horrific blunder when they live-streamed an interview with a "cat ear" filter while briefing journalists into the double murder.
Sightings across the northern prairie provinces have confirmed they are still on the move, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18 have not been in contact with family for the past few days and were travelling in the area looking for work.
He called the death of his son and Lucas' girlfiend "a love story that's ended tragically". "They were a great pair and they fell in love", he said Monday.
"They're good boys", Schmegelsky told the CBC, when the pair was initially regarded as simply missing, before they were named suspects and considered at large.
