Nylander 21, has often struggled in the AHL, compiling 30 goals and 86 points in 165 games with the Rochester Americans. Drafted 29th overall in 2017, the expectation is that Jokiharju could soon round into a power play specialist at the National Hockey League level.
In 12 games last season, Nylander had two goals and two assists. He posted 119 points (21/98) in 134 career WHL games before making his professional debut last season. "His global success last season only furthered his development and we are excited to add him to our current group of defencemen". With this move, the Sabres are able to bolster their blueline and add more scoring on defense - which could indicate that Rasmus Ristolainen could be on his way out as well.
Drafted by Chicago in the first round (29th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Jokiharju was named to the Western Conference Second All-Star Team in 2018 after recording 71 points (12/59) in 63 games for the Portland Winterhawks (WHL).
Dylan Strome, a former third overall pick, had similarly flat production in limited duty with the Arizona Coyotes before being acquired by the Blackhawks. The Sabres also have a surfeit of left wingers.
