Drinking Coffee May Boost Body's Own Fat Burning Mechanism

Now, we give you another reason to fall all the more in love with your coffee.

In a study published on Monday, researchers have found a cup of coffee can aid in weight loss by stimulating "brown fat", which burns calories in order to generate body heat.

The bodies of all mammals are filled with two completely different sorts of fats.

Brown fat works in a different way to other fat in your body and produces heat by burning sugar and fat, often in response to cold. This breakthrough discovery can help in tackling obesity crisis and may even be helpful for diabetics, University of Nottingham professor said.

It's exclusively prior to now decade that scientists found that human adults even store brown fat, however now that they're conscious of it, the search for the way to exploit it for weight reduction is on.

The team utilized a warm imaging technique, which they had recently spearheaded, to follow the body's dark colored fat stores.

Now, scientists need to double-check whether caffeine - which has previously been associated with weight reduction and increased energy expenditures in humans and animals - can constantly activate brown fat in humans.

Previous research had proven that brown fat activity might be observed beneath cold temperature conditions.

Can coffee affect the body's fat stores and help boost metabolism? Increasing the activity of the fat can improve blood sugar control and blood lipid levels, while the extra calories that are burnt can facilitate weight loss. After finding the right dose, they then moved on to humans to see if the results were similar, and the researchers found out that drinking coffee can reduce weight.

"This is the first study in humans to show that something like a cup of coffee can have a direct effect on our brown fat functions", said study leader Michael Symonds, of the University of Nottingham. More research is needed to determine what in coffee is exactly the cause behind its fat burning properties.

As far as you consume coffee in limited amounts and don't consume it as first thing in the morning, it can offer number of health benefits for you.

So could your morning coffee really help you lose weight? Studies have shown that coffee drinkers are at lesser risk of type 2 diabetes as compared to others. The consumption of coffee must however remain measured: it should not exceed 4 cups a day.

The chance that drinking coffee can promote weight reduction is what scientists are excited about this research. It is in no way a substitute for qualified medical opinion.

But one USA obesity and nutrition expert said it's just too early to label coffee a dieter's best friend. NDTV does not claim responsibility for this information.
