For those of you out there that don't know what Quibi is, no worries, I'll explain below. The upcoming streaming service will offer "quick bites of captivating entertainment, created for mobile by the best talent, designed to fit perfectly into any moment of your day".
'What Quibi is doing, it's not really short form, ' Katzenberg said. Variety also reports that Quibi has several other creatives lined up to contribute content, including Steven Soderbergh (but of course), Antoine Fuqua, and Guillermo del Toro.
Steven Speilberg broke onto the Hollywood scene in a big way with his second feature film Jaws starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and a huge shark.
Famed filmmaker Steven Spielberg has added yet another ambitious project to his docket: a horror series with a very specific frame of availability.
Katzenberg said: "He's writing it himself. He hasn't [written anything in a while] so getting him to write something is fantastic".
'[Spielberg has] written five or six episodes (referred to on Quibi as "chapters") of a 10- or 12-chapter story'. Spielberg came up with the idea about limiting the time at which viewers could watch Spielberg's After Dark, requesting that Quibi's engineers develop coding that utilizes smartphones' ability to track location, sunrises, and sunsets.
But anyhow, we'll keep you up to date as we hear more on this Spielberg's After Dark series as it develops. While the filmmaker rarely receives writing credits - he has writing credits on only three of his films, and "story by" credits on two others - he's had a hand in writing or re-writing almost every film he's made (something that tends to annoy credited screenwriters from time to time). The service is expected to launch in April 2020. This will run you $4.99 a month, with ads. And they're aiming to be something new in terms of media, not just "short form" entertainment.
