Liverpool's 29-year wait for a league title will continue after they had to settle for runners-up spot behind Manchester City despite Sadio Mane scoring twice in a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of the Premier League season.
Manchester City's Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne lift the trophy as they celebrate winning the Premier League playing against Brighton & Hove Albion at The American Express Community Stadium, Brighton, Britain on May 12, 2019. At that moment (when Liverpool fans celebrated Brighton's goal) it was a shock for everyone and Wolves were there.
"People will tell us it's 30 years or whatever [since Liverpool won the league] but they have bigger problems".
"And to be on this road and also qualify for the Champions League final, it's pretty special". But we can not ignore one team were better. "I think Liverpool will start the final as favourites and then it's up to Klopp, with his coaches and maybe some outside experts, to look at the current crop of players and decide if they're good enough, but damn it they were good enough to get 97 points".
"This club is in its best moment for a long, long time and it will not end because there is one team with a point more". We made such big steps. "That is the plan from tomorrow".
"This team is not a finished article. I can read all the stats, I can read all the numbers, it's just really exceptional", added the Reds boss.
"It's not easy but we've made a big step". Unbelievable - and there is more to come.
"But it is what it is and we go again next year".
Reeling in City won't be a piece of cake for Klopp and the 51-year-old conceded Guardiola's group present a unique challenge.
"It's not a flawless day for us but the future will show whether it's a very good one anyway".
Liverpool fans reacted warmly to the picture of Alexander-Arnold, with one writing: "This is incredibly wholesome".
"I never expected it to happen today".
"We've got clever footballers, everybody sees that. The boys did that so I'm really happy".
